It is with complete sincerity that I say that this is the tofu of my childhood. Some kids grow up eating tons of mashed potatoes and chicken, some grow up eating steak, and most look forward to a Thanksgiving turkey and a Christmas ham. Not in my house.
1 block extra firm tofu
2 tbsp tamari
juice of one lemon, or able 2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp sage
2 cups water Set oven to broil. Slice your tofu block into 1/4 in thick rectanges. Place on a cookie sheet and broil for 5-7 minutes. Flip the tofu slices and broil for another 5 minutes. In the meantime, take a tall tupperware or plastic Chinese food container and mix tamari, lemon juice, and sage in it. Once the tofu is done broiling, place the tofu in the container and pour 2 cups of water over it, so the container is filled and all the tofu is covered. Let marinate for 1 hour (if not longer). Pop back in the oven for another 10 minutes and serve! I served this over a bed of steamed kale. You can top it with some dried rosemary if you're feeling extra fancy like I was.
